We woke up early Wednesday morning (the 28th) and climbed another mountain! Seems like there’s a lot of mountain climbing… and stairs… these days.
There was a “rope car” that weeks take you up the step part of the mountain, but it started running at 9 and we didn’t have time to wait if we wanted to catch our train at 11. So we left or hotel at 7:30 and climbed up to the observation point on Mount Misen.
It was an amazing 360 degree view that made the early wake up call, and hike without food or water totally worth it.
Then we caught the first cable car back down the mountain.
We hurriedly packed up all our things, checked out of the hotel and booked it to the ferry.
But not before saying bye to the torri gate!
We saw the ferry coming so we RAN across town in order to catch it on time. And we did! At this point, we had had nothing to eat since 7 pm the previous evening (and even then it was just 1 steamed bun each and an ice cream cone) because nothing in the island was open food-wise! We ended up missing the train we had reserved seats on 😦 so we stopped for something to eat. Gotta love that JR pass and it’s flexibility!
We decided to get some okonomiyakion the Hiroshima train station.
We got it to go just in case we had to rush to our train. It was so good, and so satisfying after not eating much for over 12 hours!
We caught the next train to Kyoto and made our way to the hotel. It was super nice and super affordable since it was a good 15 minute walk from a smaller train station.
It had a huge TV that played English, on demand movies!!! Yes please! We spent the rest of the afternoon/evening watching movies and relaxing because I had a killer headache. Not enough water + bright sun + heat = a knocked out Amanda.
The room service was really affordable (less than $20 for all of it) so we just stayed in and ordered food.
Then I took a bath and passed out 😦
